Who Can Benefit from Our Program

PrevMED’s Oral Health Maintenance (OHM)® Program is designed to benefit nursing home residents of all ages. Some of our patients have natural teeth, others have partials or dentures and some are edentulous (having no natural teeth). Because the OHM® Program is individually prescribed by a PrevMED dentist, our patients receive the procedures, prescriptions, products and care that will uniquely benefit their healthcare needs.

The initial goal of the OHM® Program is to improve the general condition of the oral cavity. This alone greatly impacts the resident’s quality of life. Many residents do not eat simply because their mouth hurts and they cannot chew. They associate eating with pain. If the mouth has a putrid taste nothing tastes good. If eating is not a pleasure residents do not eat. We work to improve these conditions first. We believe that delivering the very best oral platform is the beginning of a good oral maintenance program.

When a nursing home selects PrevMED to provide oral healthcare for their residents, a local PrevMED dentist will perform an initial Oral Assessment on the entire resident population. This allows PrevMED to determine who will benefit from the OHM® Program.

After this initial assessment, a representative from PrevMED’s Patient Care Center (PCC) will contact the resident or his/her responsible party. During this phone call, your PCC representative will discuss the details of the program and answer any questions you may have. At this point, if you elect to become a PrevMED patient, we can sign you up for the program right over the phone.

The cost of the OHM® Program is a fixed monthly premium which covers all of the dentist-prescribed monthly services. There are no deductibles, no co-payments and no waiting periods for most services. The PrevMED OHM® Program is available to all nursing home residents – private pay and Medicaid-covered are charged the same monthly premium (the exact program and monthly cost will vary depending on the <state> in which the patient lives). For Medicaid-eligible residents there is no net cost to the patient (or their Responsible Party) or the nursing home, the monthly premium is fully reimbursed. PrevMED’s Patient Care Center will help determine your Medicaid eligibility.
